1. Don't go to far out of you comfort zone.

NEW YORK — LeBron James and Kobe Bryant are the leading vote-getters, while Jeremy Lin has a chance to bring Linsanity to the NBA All-Star game. Lin was running third among Western Conference guards behind Bryant (639,419 votes) and Chris Paul (353,603) when the NBA released the first All-Star balloting update of the season Thursday. Lin was a little more than 55,000 votes behind Paul as he tries to gain a starting spot for the Feb. 17 game in his home arena in Houston. Lin, an Asian-American who became a worldwide phenom last season while playing for the New York Knicks, has struggled in his first season with the Rockets but remains popular in Asia and figures to benefit from this being the first time fans can vote via social media. James had 641,348 votes. Carmelo Anthony was second among East frontcourt players and Kevin Garnett was about 7,500 votes ahead of Chris Bosh for the remaining starting slot. Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo led East guards. Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin led in the race for the West frontcourt spots. Voting continues through Jan. 14 and starters will be announced Jan. 17.

I was craving Mexican food so I stopped at Gringos for dinner today. Gringos was definitely a good choice! I ordered a variety of food, not because I'm greedy, but because I wanted to taste as many different dishes as possible! I started off with the free chips with salsa and guacamole dip. The chips were fresh and crisp. The salsa dip was so tasty that I wondered if they sold it in bottles. Needless to say, I was already getting full and my main dish had not arrived yet. I had beef empanadas for an appetizer and, in my opinion, these were the best empanadas I had tasted in a very long time. For my main course, I ate the dish named Three Amigos plus Pepe which is a plate of four different types of enchiladas with a side of beans and rice. I packed a carryout box to go and I did not have room for the free ice cream. I couldn't leave without taking advantage of their gift card special. If you purchase $50 in gift cards, you receive an additional gift card for $10. Teachers and educators in the local school districts also receive an additional 20% of their gift card purchase. Someone will get Gringos gift cards in their Christmas stocking this year. Amber W.

Just because you're going out on the town doesn't mean you have to bring an entourage. Invite just a friend or two to come along. That friend that never has money to pay and always wants to start a fight--yeah, leave him at home.

Rule #2--Know your comfort zone.

Not every venue is going to fit your personality and mood. Pick the club or bar that's going to play the music you want to hear, serve the drinks you want to drink, and attract the ladies that you want to talk to. Rule #3--Abide by the dress code.
